Stourport RFC

46 - 12

(HT 24-0)

Dixonians RFC

Stourport Vs Dixonians in recent times has been a fixture that recently has yielded plenty of try’s and this game at Walshes Meadow certainly didn’t disappoint.

Off the back of the away loss to derby team Chaddesley Corbett, Stourport felt they had a point to prove with an onus on attacking rugby. From kick off this was soon apparent as the ball found its way to the wide players plenty of times in the opening spell. Wingers Jack Ward and Adam Jones finding space on the outside and causing the Dixonian defence tracking back a good deal of problems. An opposition lineout was stolen on their 22 and after a couple of hard gain line wins Steve Callanan crossed the line for the first try of the game. Dixonians struggled to keep their hands on the ball thereafter and with Stourport’s dominance in both set pieces it wasn’t long until Loz Royal finished off a sweeping backs move coming from an attacking lineout. A Stourport penalty deep inside enemy territory should have led to an easy three points but Captain Joe Churchill seeing the opposition in disarray took the quick penalty himself and powered over line. Before halftime there was still time for Loz Royal to score his second try after cutting through the midfield following a lovely offload from his centre partner Rich Pugh.

End of the half and time for a breather.

More of the same after the break was called for by the coach and that’s what he got. A powerful lineout maul travelled down the Dixonians half resulting in an easy touchdown for Matt Beacham. Loz Royal completed his hat-trick soon after again slicing through the midfield. A turnover by Dixonians on their five-meter line and a long escape kick landed in the hands of fullback Sam Hadley. Needing no invitation, he set off wide with such pace that a hand couldn’t land on him and he touched down in the corner for his first ever Stourport try. He didn’t have to wait long for his second as again a kick created the opportunity to attack and after a one two on the wing he crossed the whitewash again. Credit to Dixonians as they put pressure on the Stourport defence at every opportunity they could and scored two quick tries in succession in the dying embers of the game.

A convincing win for the boys in blue and gold. Let’s hope they carry it on into the season!
